Bill would ensure federal employees locked out of jobs during shutdown are paid
WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement:
“I applaud Sen. Ben Cardin for introducing the Federal Employees Fair Treatment Act of 2015, which would ensure federal employees are paid in the event of a government shutdown.
“When the government shut down two years ago, federal employees who were locked out of their jobs were left wondering if they would ever get paid, while those who reported to work didn’t know when they would get paid.
“This legislation would give federal employees peace of mind in knowing that the government will uphold its obligation to pay them in the event of another lockout. The bill would also allow employees with scheduled leave during a shutdown to take that leave.”
