BRIDGETON, N.J. – The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Democrat Megan O’Rourke ahead of the June 2 primary for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
A native of Blairstown, N.J., O’Rourke has dedicated her career to public service. She spent eight years as a federal employee – most notably at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, where she managed nearly $200 million in annual investments to support farmers, student researchers, and rural communities.
O’Rourke also served as shop steward for AFGE Local 3403 while working at USDA, and she has maintained her union membership after leaving federal service.
“As a member of AFGE, Megan understands the challenges facing workers and is dedicated to fighting for labor, fair wages, health care, job security, improved working conditions, and retirement benefits,” AFGE District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez said. “Her endorsement signifies a shared vision for a stronger, more equitable workplace and labor community.”
About 29,000 federal employees live in New Jersey – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 800,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents more than 51,000 federal employees in District 2, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
