Nation’s Largest Federal Employee Union Laments Report Documenting Willful Violations of Hatch Act by Political Appointees
AFGE says OSC report highlights double standard in how political appointees and rank-and-file workers are treated
WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National President Everett Kelley issued the following statement in response to a report issued Tuesday by the Office of Special Counsel that found pervasive violations of the Hatch Act by senior Trump administration officials:
“This is a very troubling report that documents willful attempts by senior Trump administration officials to use their positions within the executive branch to promote President Trump’s reelection, which is a clear violation of federal law. Equally troubling is the fact that these individuals were allowed to break the law with impunity.
“The ordinary working people that we represent can be held accountable for even minor violations, like a simple email to a co-worker, while political appointees can violate the Act on a grand scale without any consequences, such as at national press conferences using taxpayer dollars.”
