(Washington)- The Women’s and Fair Practices Departments of AFGE today announced that they are proud to sponsor the 2006 Gospel Heritage Foundation conference. The conference will be held at Reid Temple A.M.E Church in Glenn Dale, Md., on February 15 – 17, 2006. The theme of this year’s conference is “Raising a New Standard.”
“During Black History Month we salute the contributions of thousands of black Americans who protect our borders, serve our country, take care of our veterans and contribute to the well being of our communities,” said Andrea E. Brooks, national vice president for women and fair practices of the American Federation of Government Employees.
AFGE has purchased 10 second promos and 30 second commercials to air at the end of the live broadcast from the event on February 15 to March 15, 2006, which will air on WCAO- AM 600. These commercials pay tribute during Black History Month and Women’s History Month to the many courageous men and women who have changed the face of labor.
“The black church and the inspiration provided by gospel music have been at the center of movements for civil rights and social change.” Brooks added, “These institutions have provided motivation for thousands of Americans to build a better America for all its citizens. The Gospel Heritage Foundation conference will celebrate this heritage and perpetuate the legacy of gospel music.”
