Your AFGE contract is still in effect. In January 2026, U.S. District Judge Jamal Whitehead ruled that the administration’s attempts to terminate our collective bargaining agreement violate a standing court injunction. The 2024 contract covering 47,000 TSA public servants at more than 400 airports remains binding. If management tells you otherwise, contact your steward immediately.
- You are classified as “excepted.” You must report to work. You will receive back pay once funding is restored.
- Your benefits continue. Health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement contributions all remain active. Premiums will be deducted in bulk from your first paycheck after the shutdown ends.
- Leave accrual continues but you cannot use annual or sick leave during the shutdown.
- TSP loans are available. The Thrift Savings Plan allows you to borrow against your account. Existing TSP loans remain in good standing even without payments.
- Document everything. Keep copies of your furlough notice, pay stubs, and any communications from management.
AFGE’s legal team secured a federal court ruling protecting your contract. We are monitoring management’s actions at every airport. If your rights are being violated, contact your local steward or AFGE Council 100.
