Dear [YOUR REPRESENTATIVE],
As a member of the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, who works as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) who screens passengers and baggage at [YOUR AIRPORT NAME] airport, I strongly urge you to support me and the 44,000 member TSO workforce by cosponsoring H.R. 1140, the Rights for Transportation Security Officers Act, introduced by Representatives Bennie Thompson and Nita Lowey. H.R. 1140 would grant TSA officers the same rights and protections as other Department of Homeland Security employees.
TSA officers do our jobs every day to provide aviation security, including the 35 days we worked without a paycheck during the partial shutdown. Our problems were made worse because TSOs are not paid on the GS wage system used to compensate most federal government workers, and we do not have the statutory protections of other workplace protection laws. I and my fellow TSOs should have the same workplace rights and protections against unfair treatment as other DHS employees.
My colleagues and I are asking Congress to support the TSOs who are on the frontlines of aviation safety. Please cosponsor H.R. 1140, the Rights for Transportation Security Officers Act.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
