Thanks to AFGE’s excellent legal representation, the Department of Veterans Affairs has agreed to place hundreds of VA Central Office (VACO) employees into the AFGE bargaining unit!
As part of mediation between the VA and AFGE with the Federal Labor Relations Authority serving as mediator, the parties reviewed 763 Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) VACO employees the VA had coded outside of AFGE’s bargaining unit. After the review, the agency agreed to place 411 of these employees into the bargaining unit.
AFGE and the VA also reached agreement after reviewing 155 National Cemetery Administration (NCA) employees. Of the 155 NCA employees reviewed, the VA agreed to place 55 NCA employees into the bargaining unit.
Both VBA and NCA employees will be considered in the bargaining unit in the next 30 days and are eligible to join AFGE.
VA and AFGE continue to review bargaining unit status codes for VHA VACO, Board of Veterans Appeals and the VACO staff offices as part of the ongoing mediation process.
“This is a huge victory for these employees,” said AFGE National VA Council Alma Lee. “I want to recognize the AFGE General Counsel’s Office and Deputy General Counsel Cathie McQuiston for representing AFGE in the mediation and bringing over 550 employees into AFGE’s bargaining unit, with more to come!"
