AFGE District 10, which represents federal workers in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, and Panama, was recognized for having the highest number of net increase of 2,839 new members in one year between Oct. 2022 and Oct. 2023.
The district was given the award at our union’s National Executive Council’s meeting earlier this month.
District 10 represents over 86,000 workers and is the largest district in the federation.
Four districts were honored with an award for excellence in recruitment and organizing and sustained growth in 2023: Districts 4, 8, 9, and 10.
Awards were also given to all districts for their extraordinary growth during the past year and for playing a role in making AFGE’s organizing program a huge success:
District 2: 1.6% growth, 339 new members
District 3: 4.5% growth, 647 new members
District 4: 4.5% growth, 1,260 new members
District 5: 3.9% growth, 1,703 new members
District 6: 5.1% growth, 745 new members
District 7: 3.4% growth, 611 new members
District 8: 5.9% growth, 502 new members
District 9: 7.9% growth, 1,370 new members
District 10: 6.4% growth, 2,839 new members
District 11: 4.5% growth, 759 new members
District 12: 2.8% growth, 1,049 new members
District 14: 2% growth, 350 new members
AFGE used to give awards to districts many years ago, but this is the first of its kind.
“The union has been growing this year. We are at a 13-year high for our rate of growth and are back to the size we were before the pandemic,” said AFGE Membership and Organization Director Dave Cann. “Every district has grown in the past year, and locals big and small have been working with their organizers, councils, districts and on their own to grow. We have the opportunity to celebrate that growth at every level, and this was one way to stop, recognize success, and foster future growth. It’s an exciting time for AFGE.”
