Geneva Moore is a unionist with over 47 years of federal service representing her two loves – a combat Marine (25 years of service) and an employee of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) (22 years of service).
Geneva retired from federal service in 2018, but she continues the fight as her life’s work. She is currently vice president of VBA Local 1738, for which she has served tirelessly for 18 years. Having been a valuable mentor at the local and national levels, she recognizes providing a voice to our future leaders is important as well as fulfilling as it comes to the success of Labor’s future.
She serves on multiple national committees to include national representative for the National VA Council, Mid Term Partnership Bargaining Committee (VBA), co-chair of the Legislative Committee, co-chair Labor Management Forum (VBA) and National Training and Education Committee. Geneva has proven herself as an asset who embodies the definition of a retired activist.
This dedication reflects who she is at the core and an undying commitment to our cause. Her focus on representing the interest of the membership is second to none and her efforts to ensure all employees are treated with dignity and respect is the foundation of her moral compass.
She continues her work to promote retirees sustained support as subject matter experts. These individuals provide meaning to advocacy.
Asked how she felt about being honored with the Retiree of the Year Award, she said, “I am honored and humbled to receive this award. I never imagined myself as a recipient of this great honor, it is beyond my imagination.”
“Fame, nor glory was ever my intent, I enjoy serving and honoring those who as President Lincoln described had “borne the battle.” I also take refuge in Psalms 133: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.” I am truly speechless by the receipt of this award, and I thank all those involved with acknowledging my passion. Are we altogether unsung heroes?”
