Repeal New Federal Employee Pay Cuts

At the urging of AFGE, Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland this week reintroduced a bill that would repeal massive pay cuts to new federal employees. The legislation would reverse the large retirement contribution increases imposed on federal employees hired after 2012 as part of prior budget agreements.

A. Philip Randolph Institute Targets Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Fast Track Trade Authority

The president and executive board of the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) joined a growing chorus of civil, labor and human rights organizations calling for major changes to the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The AFL-CIO’s senior constituency group is also opposing the Fast Track authority that would eliminate the ability of elected officials and constituency groups to recommend and implement necessary changes.

Incoming Senate Panel Chairman Wants to Cut Your Pay, Pension

The incoming chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has been outspoken about his plans to cut federal employees’ pay and pensions. Besides his previous proposal, Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin spoke with the Washington Post this week and discussed what he wants to do when he takes over the committee in January.
