Letter from AFGE Member
Dear Representative/Senator –
My name is (YOUR NAME), and I am your constituent living in (YOUR CITY AND STATE). I am a dedicated federal government employee and a member of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). I am writing to urge you to issue a public statement supporting federal workers and their legitimate rights.
On Friday, May 25, 2018, President Trump issued three executive orders which will silence the voices of 2.1 million federal employees and target our workplace rights.
The orders undermine our ability to use collective bargaining agreements to protect ourselves from bad behavior from managers and political appointees—including discrimination and sexual harassment against workers. It also makes it easier for my manager to fire me for virtually no reason at all.
President Trump wrote these orders in the name of “efficiency” and “transparency” but they will do just the opposite. It will make my workplace less safe, less transparent, and less efficient.
We took an oath to serve the American people and we take great pride in the work that we do. We are the people who secure our borders, protect the flying public, inspect our food, and care for our veterans.
I urge you to speak out publicly in support of federal workers and oppose these destructive executive orders.
