Join AFGE in Celebrating Pride 2019

Every June, AFGE celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month to applaud the progress that has been made and to bring awareness to the struggles that still exist to reach equality for our union family. This year, we commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which are widely considered the most important event leading to the modern fight for LGBTQIA+ rights.

FMLA for Feds in Same-Sex Marriages No Matter Where They Live

The Labor Department announced the rule change in keeping with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Windsor, which struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act provision that interpreted "marriage" and "spouse" to be limited to opposite-sex marriage for the purposes of federal law.

AFGE Pride

Just as labor unions educate, empower and lobby politically on behalf of the middle class and working families, organizations committed to lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender individuals (LGBT) are an incredible source of information and advocacy for our LGBT brothers and sisters. Throughout June, the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments will celebrate LGBT Pride Month by highlighting the many organizations and individuals who have been on the forefront of the LGBT movement.
