For the first time in history, AFGE has a Black constituency group!
At the June 2021 NEC meeting, our union’s national leaders approved the AFGE B.L.A.C.K. resolution put forth by the Y.O.U.N.G. Committee and the Human Rights Committee which established the new membership program and constituency group under the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments.
B.L.A.C.K. is an acronym that stands for “Black Leaders Advancing Change and Knowledge.” AFGE B.L.A.C.K. exists to increase solidarity in AFGE by highlighting the issues specifically impacting our Black members. It is through understanding each other’s struggles that we can effectively fight for one another.
Membership is open to any individual who is a current member in good standing of AFGE and identifies as a member of the Black, African American, or African diaspora, as well as current members in good standing who identify as an ally of this community.
