AFGE needs individuals in locals to serve as retiree coordinators. Local Retiree Coordinators help our Union in many ways:
- Works with Local leadership to recruit members before they retire and engage the local’s retirees
- Ideal candidate is a Local member nearing retirement or a recent retiree
- Identifies Local members nearing retirement and conducts outreach to recruit membership
- Coordinates Programs for Lunch & Learns on issues affecting retirement
Works to engage retiree members in activities, including:
- Legislative Advocacy
- Political Activity
- Mentoring
- Organizing
- Communications
- Volunteering on events and community service
- Volunteering in Local office when needed
- Participation in Central Labor Councils and Alliance for Retired Americans
