The American Federation of Government Employees, Local No. 644, AFL-CIO (“Local 644”) was chartered in 1940 and is one of the oldest locals in the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and one of the charter member locals of the Bargaining Council 73 of AFGE (the National Council of Field Labor Locals (“NCFLL”)). The NCFLL, chartered in 1962, serves as the exclusive representative for all Department of Labor employees who work outside of Washington, D.C.; currently Local 644 is one of 18 local constituents of the NCFLL accomplishing the day-to-day work of the union at the regional level.

Local 644 leaders are committed to representing all DOL bargaining unit employees ("BUEs") within the Local's Region 3 jurisdiction and our stewards zealously represent the BUEs in the offices they service. This is largely accomplished through direct representational activities and negotiating the impact and implementation of proposed changes in regional or area working conditions. At the individual BUE level we have a track record of success in informally and formally addressing matters such as performance based actions, disciplinary actions, adverse actions, terminations, year-end rating disputes, harassing behavior, and reasonable accommodations. We have also addressed office/region wide concerns including office moves and renovations, hostile working environments, work overload, affording the ability to telework to all BUEs in telework eligible positions, bargaining the implementation of new policies and ensuring fairness and adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (the “Contract”).

Local 644 represents U.S.DOL bargaining unit employees working in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia in addition to MSHA Metal and Non Metal in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire and MSHA employees in the Monroeville Sub-District, Bruceton Safety Center and the Approval and Certification Center.  The BUEs we represent accomplish great work, even in trying times, through a strong work ethic and desire to get the job done right for the benefit of the U.S. government and the public.

We give a well-deserved SHOUT-OUT to our hard working BUEs in ALJ, BAT, BLS, EBSA, ETA, MSHA, OASAM, OFCCP, OJC, OLMS, OPA, OSEC, OSHA, OWCP, SOL, VETS, WB, and WHD.  We are proud to serve you!
