CORAOPOLIS, Pa. –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsements of Sharif Street for election to the U.S. House representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd congressional district and Janelle Stelson for election to the U.S. House representing Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district in the 2026 elections. The statewide primary is May 19, and the general election is Nov. 3.
Sharif Street
Sharif Street has always been a strong supporter of the labor movement. He has voted with labor in Harrisburg as a state senator. He has walked picket lines, including for DC33 during their strike this summer. Once elected to Congress, he will continue to stand with labor in Washington. When he fought for funding to keep Temple and Einstein hospitals open, he also fought for better wages for the nurses and allied professionals. Street has routinely used his leverage to fight for higher wages and union jobs for state funded projects in his district.
“State Senator Sharif Street has always supported federal workers, even from state government. When there have been government shutdowns and attacks on our union rights, he always speaks out and shows up to events making this known in Philadelphia,” AFGE District 3 National Vice President Phil Glover said.
Street is supported by 37 labor unions and is a member of Laborers Local 57.
More than 12,000 federal employees live in PA’s 3rd congressional district – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
Janelle Stelson
Janelle Stelson firmly supports the PRO Act, which would make it easier for employees to join unions, engage in collective bargaining, and secure fair wages and working conditions. Additionally, she will fight for greater protections against unfair labor practices, such as employer interference in organizing efforts. Once elected to Congress, she will support the repeal of cost-shifting in FERS, ensuring that any changes are fair and reasonable, and will oppose future efforts to reduce benefits under FERS.
“Janelle Stelson has supported our union and federal workers in PA District 10. She shows up to local events and has questioned many of the votes and statements of her opponent. We need Janelle in the House of Representatives to push back on all the attacks against federal workers,” AFGE District 3 National Vice President Phil Glover said.
Stelson has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO and 16 other labor unions. Once elected to Congress, she will oppose attacks on D.C. and federal workers’ pensions. She will also work toward restoring and maintaining the agreements that workers have negotiated.
More than 11,000 federal employees live in the 10th congressional district of Pennsylvania – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents more than 66,000 federal employees in Pennsylvania.
