Lawmakers and private companies are trying to privatize airport security at the Orlando International Airport. And we're afraid that Orlando is just the beginning.
Replacing our TSA officers with inexperienced, underpaid contractors will not fix perceived problems at Orlando's airport. It will make travelers less safe, and set a nasty precedent to privatize the TSA nationwide.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has represented TSA employees since 2003. Since then, nearly 19,000 hardworking men and women from airports across the country have joined our union. AFGE is 700,000 working men and women standing up for fair pay and benefits, workplace safety and job security for all government workers.
TSA workers joined together with AFGE to fight back against poor working conditions, low pay, mandatory overtime, arbitrary management practices, and the highest injury rate in the federal government. We won many improvements, but there’s more to be done.
