I am currently the Vice President of Defense Logistics Agency Department of Defense, Warner Robins Air Force Base, AFGE Local 987. Retired May 2022 with 31 years of experience as a Unionist, during my tenure, I was awarded by DoD the Distinguished Civilian Career Medal 2021, Notable Achievement, Organizing and Recruiting Awards for Outstanding Performance with AFGE Local 987 and awarded a proclamation honoring my hard work in the community.
I have been a proud active member for many years with boots on the ground, mentoring my brothers and sisters across AFGE receiving the Y.O.U.N.G Mentorship Award from our National Women’s and Fair Practices Department February 2023. I am the proud wife of Retired Chief Master Sergeant Samuel Freeman, mother of Army Veteran, Shauntee’ Gordon and Brittany Gordon, honor graduate from the University of Alabama.
I was born into the union; both of my parents were dedicated servant leaders to their fellow union brothers and sisters while growing up. At a noticeably early age, I saw my father’s union go on strike, withholding their labor as leverage when bargaining for better pay and working conditions. That was the day I gained respect for all labor workers who have paved the way for our brothers and sisters.
Growing up in the union I developed the skills and knowledge to make me more effective to help when help is needed. I was inspired by the workforce to further my education, earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business management. My education is a passport that I use to file several Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs), grievances, and EEO complaints, in which employees were wrongfully rated, resulting in recovered appraisal awards and other forms of relief, with a 100% success rate and over $60,000 in rewards recovered in defending our coworker’s rights against the agency.
