It’s never too early to start grooming young activists for key leadership positions in your Local, Council, or District. Growth in the Labor Movement and AFGE is how we will continue to build on our success. Without people to initiate and monitor this growth, neither Labor nor our young leaders can realize their full potential. They need the mentoring and training that only our avid activists can provide based upon their years of experience and learning.
As an AFGE Y.O.U.N.G. mentor, you will find the most interested and promising activists and take them under your wing. Current leadership realizes that one day they will have to move on from their positions and one of their younger counterparts could replace them at the top. Think of this as an opportunity to transfer one generation’s learning to the next generation of leaders. By providing a seamless shift in leadership, you will have stopped the chance of your Local suffering rollbacks from management. This will reinvigorate younger activists to the building of AFGE and they will feel a greater sense of loyalty based upon the time that was spent grooming them.
