AFGE Voices Concerns to VA Bill Targeting Low Wage Schedulers' Bonuses

In a written testimony submitted to the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs during a hearing this week on pending legislation, AFGE raised serious concerns over a bill that would require employees of all levels who received bonuses in 2011 through 2014 to repay the awards if the employees “contributed to the purposeful omission of the name of one or more veterans waiting for health care from an electronic wait list for a medical facility.”

DeCA Local Reaches out to California Lawmaker

AFGE Local 63 in California recently met with Daniel Hazard, field director for Rep. Susan Davis, to discuss pressing issues that hurt Defense Commissary Agency employees and military families. The local reported that Director Hazard was receptive to the local’s concern about the merger of the DeCA and AAFES and the increase in employee contribution from 0.8% to 6.35% to the retirement system.

AFGE Reminds Congress Defense Civilian Workforce Is Cheapest

In anticipation of an event on Thursday by some lawmakers and think tanks to discuss defense reforms including the size of the Pentagon’s civilian workforce, AFGE sent a letter to members of Congress in both the House and the Senate, reiterating the fact that the Department of Defense civilian workforce is the cheapest among the department’s three workforces – military, contractors, and DoD civilians.

Bill Introduced to Give VA Clinicians Bargaining Rights
