As a direct result of our union’s leadership in the lawsuit against three union-busting, democracy-busting executive orders, and the resulting injunction we won in court, the Office of Personnel Management has ordered agencies to comply with the judge’s ruling and restore employees’ legal right to representation.

On August 1, the Senate approved a 1.9% pay raise for federal employees in January as part of a fiscal 2019 spending bill. But if the House of Representatives doesn’t act, federal workers will be denied any pay adjustment in January under an alternative pay plan President Trump submitted to Congress today.

The Trump administration was delivered another blow against its attempts to undo our apolitical civil service system and dismantle unions across the country. In a recent decision by an independent arbitrator, the Department of Veterans Affairs was found to be in violation of the existing Master Agreement between the VA and AFGE by improperly implementing the VA Accountability Act.

More than 1,560 delegates from 533 locals attended the convention to cast their votes, and the results are in. National President J. David Cox Sr. returns to office for another three-year term. Delegates also elected District 5 National Vice President Everett Kelley to the office of National Secretary-Treasurer, and Jeremy Lannan to the office of National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices – both for three-year terms as well.

Besides balancing her assignment as a full-time Social Security Administration employee and her many union duties, everywhere she goes, Cassandra Butler is always looking for ways to help those in need in her community. And those in need are often young, homeless people who do not have any type of support system to help them deal with difficult situations like drug addiction, pregnancies, mental illness, and domestic violence. That’s why we honored her with our A. Philip Randolph-Hubert H. Humphrey Award for outstanding community service.
